Purple Tentacle is the primary antagonist of Day of the Tentacle, and one of the antagonists of Maniac Mansion. He is the evil counterpart of Green Tentacle, both being sentient disembodied tentacles that perhaps belonged to the pet octopus of the college's biology department..
Maniac Mansion[]
Purple lives in Dr. Fred Edison's house, being his pet and henchman (although not as loyal). He is mainly guarding the entrance to the secret lab, terrifying Sandy Pantz.
Dr. Fred also sends it to investigate if the Mansion's power is cut off, or there is a problem with the nuclear reactor; if it catches a kid, it brings them to the dungeon.
Day of the Tentacle[]
Some time after the events of Maniac Mansion, Purple ingests sludge from Dr. Fred's Sludge-o-Matic and spontaneously grows arms (but sadly for him, no fingers or opposable thumbs). This emboldens him to attempt to take over the world, via political maneuvering and sundry childish pranks (i. e. cow-tipping).
